The Galena Inn is a famous Historical Building

A family business for over 20 years
Our famous B&B is located on a quiet street overlooking Galena. Built in a definitive Italianate style, The Galena Inn exudes classic sophistication in a refined historic setting, walking distance from Galena’s famous Main Street. The Galena Inn was the first home in the area to have running water to the bathrooms. President Grant was a close personal friend of the owner and builder of the house, Augustus Estey. Before leaving to take office, Grant gave his farewell speech to the people of Galena from our balcony, then headed off to the White House.
All of our rooms and suites have private bathrooms.
Our guests also have access to a hot tub spa located on the grounds in a charming gazebo, providing complete privacy.
Three porches and English gardens
Relax on one of three porches. Escape to our English gardens with a glass of iced tea or hear the fascinating history of The Victorian Mansion over seasonal drinks & cheese or simply enjoy a spirited game of pool in our billiard parlor.
Ease tensions and drift into total relaxation while soaking in our new secluded hot tub, located just under the stars in a private gazebo on the edge of the English gardens.
A small travel trough history
Step back in time to 1856, when Augustus Estey—a wealthy banker and lead smelter—built this stunning Victorian-era estate as a symbol of elegance and prestige. Lovingly restored and authentically updated furnishes, the mansion radiates timeless charm while offering a glimpse into Galena’s golden age.
Set on over two beautifully manicured acres, this grand Italianate-style home was once the epicenter of high society. Its doors opened regularly to Galena’s most distinguished citizens—including none other than Ulysses S. Grant. In fact, it was from the mansion’s sweeping balcony that Grant delivered his farewell speech to the people of Galena, during a send-off celebration hosted by Estey himself, marking a memorable moment in the town’s rich history.
Today, the estate invites you to experience that same sense of grandeur, history, and storytelling—where every room whispers echoes of the past.
